Circlesongs Experience

In Gaël's Worten: 

Circlesongs  are a form of a capella singing in which someone conducts a circle of  singers, assigning them a melodical loop, or a rhythmic or harmonic part, and improvising on top of it. Bobby McFerrin made this way of  singing famous and it is now spreading throughout Europe, bringing  together beginners as well as accomplished singers, for a unique collective experience.

This  workshop offers a discovery of this universe. You won’t necessarily conduct and improvise in the center of the circle, nor will you learn  all the tricks. You can just enjoy the music, play and explore rhythm,  harmony, listening, human and vocal cohesion. 

A  good sense of rhythm and experience in polyphonic singing are  recommended (but not required) to fully enjoy the experience. Whatever  your level, it is likely that you will get out of your comfort zone at  one time or another: sometimes patterns can be repeated over a long  time, or, on the contrary, everything can switch over very quickly and  you will have to stay focused and be reactive. You might improvise in  front of everyone (if you want to!), but you could also feel frustrated  for not having enough time and space to do it. 

We will dance, move, sing  (a lot), connect to others, and live a journey through all kinds of  experiences and atmospheres.

Zu Gaël's Person:

Gaël Aubrit fell in love with vocal improvisation and circlesongs through discovering Bobby Mcferrin in 2010. Since then, he dedicates most of his life to spreading and refining this particular art form. He graduated first from the ENM Villeurbanne with a State certificate in musical studies (DEM) in singing, he then became a certified vocal technique teacher of Allan Wright's "Le Chanteur Moderne". In the meantime, he joined the teachers team in Bobby McFerrin's annual Circlesongs school in the US. He teaches in many different places: music schools and artistic centers, in France and abroad, and to professionals as well as amateurs.
